SUMMARY:Piggy Plus Col Larch Hike/ OT 4
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\n[https://bobspirko.ca/Hiking/Kananaskis/PiggyPlusCol/PiggyPlusCol.html](https://bobspirko.ca/Hiking/Kananaskis/PiggyPlusCol/PiggyPlusCol.html) \nNO BEGINNERS!!\nDistance: 14.3 km return\nElevation: 660 meters ( + or – )\nMax Elevation: 2550 meters \nThis is a great larch hike. On the way to Burstall Pass we take a left and make our way through some stunning scenery with LOTS of Larches!!\nThere are some steep sections and even a small scramble step or two along the way. Once we’re at the col there is the option to go a little higher along the ridge towards Mount Burstall to see both the Robertson and French Glaciers ( totally optional).\nWe can also top Piggy Minus on the return if we feel up to it for more larch magic.\nI’ve done this hike once before and really enjoyed it and the abundance of larches. \nThe Slow and Steady Waiver and Code of Conduct are in effect. I will have a hard copy of the waiver with me at the meetup point.\nThe suggested gas fee is $20 per passenger. Some of us may go for burgers and beers after the hike so plan accordingly.\nWe will make a pit stop at the Kananaskis Visitor Center on Hwy 40 on the way to the hike.

SUMMARY:Ha Ling Full Moon/Sunrise Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\n*****Group spread has become a big concern for me\, and in order to combat it\, my attendance limit going forward will be a max group of ten (or less)\, including me. I’m hopeful to reach people in recognizing how dangerous a practice this has become. If you have not been directly involved in an event where someone gets separated from the group\, causing a major delay\, you have definitely heard stories of it happening. Someone lost is the least of the concerns\, which still has the potential to tax our overloaded SAR guys. It’s just a matter of time before someone gets injured or\, worse\, loses their life\, which has already happened to our beloved friend\, Trina. If racing to the summit and back is the most important thing for you\, please find an appropriate group to do that with\, or organize trips yourself with capable\, like-minded people. And please stay together as one group when you do.***** \nIf being in our majestic mountains\, soaking up all the beauty nature has to offer us\, creating great memories with awesome\, like minded people sounds good to you\, please sign up and share your energy to getting the most out of our precious remaining life seconds!!! \n****It is a requirement to read the following trip posting very carefully and to make the proper and responsible preparations for it. Failure to do so will result in the participant not being allowed on this trip. A waitlist has automatically been created to determine your suitability as a potential participant for this trip. You must meet all the prerequisites to be eligible to attend this event. If the organizer deems it necessary to obtain additional information from you\, please provide it. Unfortunately the conditions for my usual Mount Allan trip are not favorable\, but a shorter trip up Ha Ling will assist nicely in my withdrawl for headlamp/full moon hiking.** \n**Stats – 8k\, 800m gain\, summit temps are potentially gonna be -10 ish which is a 30° temp swing for us so the summit is gonna feel ‘freaking cold man’. The timing is gonna put us on or near the summit for 6-630am which is going to mean 1 to 1.5 hours sit around time waiting for sunrise. You have to be prepped with all your winter gear. Hand warmers\, winter gloves\, toque\, layers\, layers\, layers\, plus a change of upper layers if you sweat a lot\, spare socks\, a thermos with hot liquid. There might be a dusting of snow\, so we’ll need microspikes. Honestly\, you have to be little nuts to consider joining this hike!!!** \n**The geek stuff… a FULL harvest moon\, the constellation Orion\, the Pleiades star cluster\, Jupiter\, Saturn\, Mars\, if we’re lucky some wicked alpine glow\, and hopefully a beautiful sunrise 🙃.** \n**You will get a fantastic return for using up valuable remaining life seconds all for the price of zero dollars!!!** \n**(Disclaimer- The organizer of this event cannot be held responsible for stray clouds that leave you with the feeling that staying home and sleeping in would have been a better idea and refunds will not be given).** \n**Cheers\,** \n**Michael JC** \n(Maybe group willing we can stop for breakfast at the Casino on the drive home). \n*******Please be kind to your fellow hikers and only sign up if you are committed to the event so you don’t take away the opportunity for someone else who might really want to join****.*** \nRideshare fee $20.00. \nMust-Have Gear \n-Microspikes\n-Winter Gear… Gloves\, Toque\, Multiple layers\, Hand Warmers\, Down Jackets…\n-Bear Spray (not a ‘must have’ but bring if you do have\, please)\n-Headlamp (With NEW batteries) <—-***\n-An appropriate backpack\n-Proper hiking clothes/boots (NO COTTON)\, 1 liter of water\, a thermos with something hot\, personal first aid kit\, emergency bivvy sack\, and fire starting materials. \n***Pack appropriately\, i.e.\, like you are spending the night out unexpectedly!!!*** \n**HEADLAMP**(<——-this is written twice\, did you notice?) and FRESH batteries\, spare socks\, 1 liter of water (<—– this is also written twice)\, a big lunch\, and high energy snack foods. \nOptional Gear \n-Hiking poles\n-Ski Goggles \nYour participation in this event means you have read and accepted the waiver by signing up for it. SUMMARY:The Onion/Iceberg Lake: All Day Adventure
Otherwise\, you will remain on the waitlist. As a potential participant\, you must check this trip posting for additional directions from the organizer\, including up to trip cancellation.**** \n**The Onion/Iceberg Lake: All Day Adventure** \nAfter being out all summer I am happy to see some nice weather ops for some kind of epic trip\, and Jimmy Simpson valley will fill the void I have been feeling nicely. It will be a very long and full day adventure. Anyone wanting to join should expect to be on trail for at least 12 hours between our two destinations and there is a very chilly\, albeit short\, river crossing on our way back from Iceberg. Oh\, and yeah\, 430am at the Petro!!! We have to get there early for parking and just because\, haha. \nStats… maybe 22k ish\, 1000m gains. \nWhat’s the reward for this craziness? For anyone who has not been there\, this is an incredibly beautiful and magical valley. You get to see\, touch\, and walk on a glacier. We will be rewarded with extraordinary views of the surrounding peaks and Bow Lake from above followed up with some adventure routing on the trek to Iceberg Lake. I have a special affinity for Iceberg. It has one of the most interesting rock formations in all of our Rocky Mountains not to mention getting to stand above the roaring Bow Falls. While everyone else is hunting for parking spots and bumping around with Chinook Mall level crowds just to look at larches\, we will have this entire valley to ourselves 😉 !!! \nOh\, I almost forgot… maybe a headlamp finish too. Mwuhahahahaaaa (<— Maniacal laughing). \nCheers\, \nMichael JC \n*******Please be kind to your fellow hikers and only sign up if you are committed to the event so you don't take away the opportunity for someone else who might really want to join****.*** \nRideshare fee $25.00. \nMust-Have Gear \n-Microspikes\n-Water Crossing Shoes\n-A small towel to dry off after the river xing\n-Sunglasses\n-Bear Spray (not a 'must have' but bring if you do have\, please)\n-Headlamp (With fresh batteries)\n-An appropriate backpack\n-Proper hiking clothes/boots (NO COTTON)\, 2 liters of water\, personal first aid kit\, emergency bivvy sack\, and fire starting materials. \n***Pack appropriately\, i.e.\, like you are spending the night out unexpectedly!!!*** \n**HEADLAMP**(<——-this is written twice\, did you notice?) and FRESH batteries\, spare socks\, 2 liters of water (<—– this is also written twice)\, a big lunch\, and high energy snack foods. \nRecommended Gear \n-Hiking poles\n-Ski Goggles \nYour participation in this event means you have read and accepted the waiver by signing up for it. If you have stated "no" in your profile\, you will not be accepted to participate. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being.
