DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nDistance: 2x 5 km return\nElevation: 400 meters +/-\nNote: End time is only an estimate.\nWEATHER Dependent \nThe Heart Creek hike is a beautiful\, fun and easy hike. The trail follows the path of Heart Creek into the belly of a dramatic mountain canyon\, filled with large evergreen trees and boulders on the canyon floor. Highlights include crossing the little wooden bridges over Heart Creek\, a beautiful aspen forest and excellent Rocky Mountain views. We will also check out the abandoned cold war-era bunker. \nThe pace will be very slow and steady with lots of time for photos and relaxing. \nThis hike is for NOVICE/SLOW and BEGINNER HIKERS. We will stay together as a group at the pace of the slowest person. No exceptions. Following the hike we will join the Slow and Steady Anniversary Picnic. (see below) \nSUGGESTIONS OF WHAT TO BRING:\nSturdy shoes/boots (must)\nBear spray (must)\nWeather appropriate clothing\nHiking poles\nWater and snacks\nHeadlamps for exploring the bunker\nMedical Information (ie answers to questions EMT people will ask if you are in an accident) \nCARPOOLING:\nPlease be considerate of your driver’s vehicle and bring a change of shoes and a large plastic bag to keep mud off car floor.\nSuggested gas fee contribution is $20 per passenger. \nWAIVER AND CODE OF CONDUCT:\nThe Slow and Steady waiver and Code of Conduct apply. I only could reserve 4 tickets for a shuttle bus and they are all taken. DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nRibbon Creek is a fantastic hike. This hike follows the creek to Ribbon Falls. Have hiked the area and the trail should be in great condition. Expect these conditions will be the same next week. \n**Trail Name**: Ribbon Falls via Ribbon Creek (All Trails Route.)\n**Difficulty**: Hard\n**Trailhead meet-up time**: Monday \,September 28\, 2026 9:30 AM\n**Location**: Ribbon Creek Day Use Parking (See map attached) \n**NOTE: Difficulty Moderate-** This is a longer hike at an 18.5 kms\, but terrain is not difficult\, and the reward at the end is the scenic and picturesque falls!\n**Weather and Hike Day -** This hike day may be changed depending on weather conditions. Next week there will be a few cooler days temperatures coming this way. Ribbon Creek offers lots of variety in the hike. I know you will enjoy it! \n**Weather**: To be updated as we get closer to the hike day (usually the Wednesday before the hike day). \n**Trail Details**\n**Distance**: Approx. 18.5 kms (Out and Back)\n**Elevation gain**: Approx. 680 meters\n**Time**: Approx. 4.0 hours. \n**RECOMMENDED GEAR & SUPPLIES**\nWalking/hiking poles – very useful for hiking for distance\nGood hiking shoes recommended\nAppropriate clothing / layers – Carry layers so you can remove and add\nlayers as needed. Breathable clothing is recommended that keeps\nyour body warm and keeps moisture away from your skin.\n**Safety**\nPersonal first aid kit suggested\, (Am Certified in CPR and Wilderness Safety) Carry a\nfirst aid kit in the case of emergency.\nBear Spray\nSunglasses\nDefinitely bring snacks/lunch and water. DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nThis is an urban walk is to keep up our fitness for hiking. We will walk the Glenmore Reservoir area\, often up and down hills on the dirt trails (about 200-metre elevation gain). This is not a stroll and we are going at a moderate pace (~4-4.5 km/hr). If you are speed demons and not willing to stay with the group please do not sign up. \n**Location:** We will meet at the parking lot at 24 Street and 90 Avenue SW next to the splash park.\n**Distance:** Approx. 6-9 km.\n**Time:** 1.5-2 hrs\n**Weather note:** Generally\, the hike will go ahead in light rain or snow. If the dirt trails are too muddy or slippery\, we will walk along the pathway.\n**Who can attend:** Members only. No dogs.\n**Gear requirements:**\nHiking boots/shoes or appropriate footwear for dirt trails.
