SUMMARY:Sherbrooke Lake & Beyond - (T3) **EXPLORATORY**
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nBeyond Sherbrooke Lake is an alpine adventure many hikers never experience. I’ve hiked to the lake before\, but this time we’ll go a bit farther to see several waterfalls\, wildflower-filled meadows\, and not to mention stunning mountain views. The plan is to reach the Niles Amphitheatre\, with about 600 m of elevation gain. If conditions\, time\, and the group’s energy allow\, we may continue to Niles Col for even better views. We will not be climbing Mt. Niles. As this is an exploratory hike\, your patience and understanding would be greatly appreciated. \nIt is a requirement to read the following trip posting very carefully and to make the proper and responsible preparations for it. Failure to do so\, will result in participant not bring allowed on this trip or removal from trip at the organizers discretion. You must answer all questions. SUMMARY:Wilderness Area Backpack Overnight OT4
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nCataract Pass. 3 days 2 nights. Day 2 will be exploring the area but no scrambles. Random camping. No facilities. You’ll need a bear canister or an ursack for this trip\, camping at open Alpine terrain. No fires allowed. Sign up only if you are firm. Limited spots. Not for slowpokes. Event is being done through hike style. Expect some wet feet creek crossings. I’m known not to stop much. I have a uber light pack. Be prepared to snack drink on the move. \nDistance: Approx 17 Km one way.\nElevation Gain: 800 meters approx one way.\nEvent Pace: 5-6 hr about hike in \nYour backpack should not weigh more than 25 lbs/11.5kg all in\, including food and water. The lighter the better. I have very light pack. \nYou’ll need a National Park pass if you are driving. I’m definitely driving. We’ll be de-camping just after a light breakfast and heading to to a nearby town for lunch after. If you can’t do all activities please don’t sign up. No cell reception where we are going. \nExpect any kind of weather conditions including cold conditions and possible snow on the ground. There will be no shared equipment. You’re expected to be self sufficient. If you’ve never random camped before\, good opportunity to try things out. \nMeal planning: 2 lunch\, 2 dinner and 2 breakfast. *We’ll be stopping over at a nearby town on the way back for lunch.* \nNote withdrawal cut off time. Will need a minimum of three persons for this to be a go else I might as well solo it. *RSVP only if you are firm*. \nThe event host reserves the right to not allow participants on the event if they are not fit enough or are not a fit for the group. \nAny questions let me know. \nRequired equipment:\n– Bear Spray\n– Bear canister or ursack\n– A lightweight backpack and gear. It is entirely organised by volunteers. \nWe will meet and greet at 8:30am – Shaganappi Trail NW and Edgemont Drive\, next to the bathroom at the parking lot. The walking event starts every Saturday at 9:00am. We will go at a leisurely pace. Afterwards\, we will grab a post parkrun beverage/snack at the Friends cafe (104-45 Edenwold Drive NW\, Calgary T3A 3S8). \nIt’s free\, but please register with parkrun before you first come along if you want your time recorded. Cox Hill’s proper name is Cocks-comb Hill\, named after its fringe of a summit rock by surveyor A.O. Wheeler who climbed it in 1895 \nThe Stoney/Nakoda have their own name\, which is Zotha Odabi Baha \, that translates as ‘many marmots hill’. \nThe trail offers views of Moose Mountain\, Hunchback Hills\, and the Kananaskis range of mountains. \nParticipation is not first come first served and is at the discretion of the organizer. Attendees will be selected based on their suitability to fit with the group\, however\, please note that I am unable to accommodate everyone. If you have not hiked with me before\, I may contact you for additional information. \nOur end time is a guess at best.
