SUMMARY:Bike Ride : Bearspaw/Glendale
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nLet’s head out for a ride through the beautiful rolling countryside of Bearspaw and Glendale Road\, just west of Calgary!\nIt is a fantastic\, scenic route\, but please be aware that we will be sharing the road with vehicle traffic. Here are a few important notes about the current conditions: \n* **Traffic & Construction:** There is an active construction site along the route\, and we may encounter semi-trucks and heavier traffic in certain sections.\n* **Route Planning:** I scouted this area with Chris about two weeks ago. Based on that ride\, I am designing our route to avoid the busiest roads as much as humanly possible. \n🌲**Post-Ride Hangout!** 🚴‍♂️☕\n***After we wrap up our ride\, we’re going to tailgate and hang out! Since the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge is an open-concept community hub\, we can use their public space to gather\, relax\, and chat.***\n***Please feel free to bring some snacks\, food\, or drinks to share with your fellow riders.***\n🌲 **Is this ride for you?**\nIf riding near larger vehicles or navigating construction zones makes you uncomfortable\, this particular route might not be the best fit for you. You must meet all of the prerequisites\, and answer all of the RSVP questions. in order to be moved to the going list.\nAttendance is at the discretion of the organizer\, not FCFS — multiple ‘no show’ would render member ineligible for participation.\n🌲 Participation Policy\nAttendance on this trip is strictly contingent upon agreeing to our club waiver. SUMMARY:Ribbon Falls Alternate Route - Long Day/Slow Pace
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nI have a backpacking trip coming up soon going to Ribbon Falls campground\, but the trail has been closed for weeks. Alberta Parks just announced this morning; an alternate route is available to go to Ribbon Falls backcountry campground. I would like to test out this route\, before taking people with full overnight backpacks. \nSo\, I’m posting an exploratory hike to Ribbon Falls. This will be a long mountain hikes\, so I will only take people I have hiked with before. (If you would like to join one of my mountain hikes\, please come on one of my Glenbow Ranch evening hikes first). The alternate route takes Terrace\, Kovatch\, and Link trails instead of Ribbon Creek trail\, due to a bridge being out. This makes the trail a little longer\, 10km each way\, for approximately 20.6km and 700m of elevation gain\, due to the out and back route. We will not go fast\, but it will be a long day hike\, returning early evening. \nThe falls are impressive and beautiful\, and will likely have more water than usual. We will take a long relaxing lunch at the falls. Due to the distance of this hike\, we will not have time to go to the chain section that leads to Ribbon Lake (please don’t ask\, you can do this on your own hike). \nWe meet at the Ribbon Creek Day Use Area\, at 8:45am\, to be ready to hike at 9am sharp. This will be a long day\, please don’t make evening plans. The map in the link is wrong. Please use Google Maps or traditional maps to find the Ribbon Creek Day Use Area. \nOn my hikes\, we take 8-12 experienced hikers. We do not run ahead or leave people behind. Super fast people will hike behind the slowest hiker. We are out to enjoy nature together\, get to know each other better\, and keep each other safe. If you run ahead of the group\, we will feed you to the bears. \nIf you have not hiked with me before\, please join my monthly\, evening\, Glenbow Ranch hikes so we can get to know each other before going yo the mountains. The next two are posted for Thursday\, July 30th\, and Thursday\, August 27th \nNo beginners\, no guests\, no children. I may bring my friendly\, experienced hiking dog\, on a leash\, if there is room in my Jeep. Her name is Jasmine. \nYou can choose to make your own carpooling plans once you are accepted on the hike. Recommended $25 gas fee. I recommend meeting at Shouldice Park and Ride or Petro Canada at hwy 22 and 1. I can take 3 (max 4) passengers from Petro\, on the north end of the gravel road\, on the hwy 22 side. Please plan your pickup times accordingly to arrive at the trailhead by 8:45am. Recommended gas fee is $25 and driver needs a Kananaskis Park Pass. \nBear spray recommended. Lunch\, snacks\, 2-3 litres of water plus electrolytes\, poles\, changes of clothes\, medications\, waterproof hiking boots\, gaiters\, required. Water purification tablets\, a headlamp with new batteries\, first aid kit\, tensor bandage\, and emergency silver blanket are recommended in case things don’t go to plan. Extra socks and plastic bags for your boots are also useful. A water bladder you can drink while you hike\, plus a backup water bottle is ideal \nPlease read the slow and steady waiver and code of conduct in advance. You will sign in agreeing to the conditions of the waiver at the trailhead and leave an emergency contact name and number. You agree to follow slow and steady policies\, listen to the organizer\, treat everyone with respect\, do your own research on the hikes\, come prepared\, and recognize that your organizers are volunteers who put in a lot of their own time to plan and lead these hikes for you.
