SUMMARY:Arnica and upper view of Twin Lake - Relaxed Pace
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\nI love this unique\, slightly challenging hike on the BC side. The opposite of usual\, we start downhill toward Arnica Lake through a beautiful forest with wildflowers ending back uphill just before the lake. We eventually come to beautiful Arnica Lake surrounded by many Arnica flowers. At this point\, we have a choice. We can stop there for lunch and head back the same way or go farther to the first of the twin lakes (strong group). One the way back\, we go back uphill\, level out\, and finish with some elevation gain\, as we climb uphill to the trailhead. \nOptions to be decided by the group in coordinator with the trip organizer \nArnica Lake Trail:\nListed as hard\, 10.2km and 760-970m elevation gain (based on route)\, return\, pass by Vista Lake \n1st Twin Lake (the pretty one):\nAfter we get to the Arnica Lake\, we can choose to hike 2.3 more kms to the first of the twin lakes\, which is beautiful. This adds 4.6 kms and several hundred meters with three lakes and a total of 19km and 1170m. \nWe meet at the Vista/Arnica trailhead\, see map\, at 9:45am\, to be ready to hike at 10am sharp. This will be a long challenging day\, please don’t make evening plans. \nOn my hikes\, we take 8-12 experienced hikers. We do not run ahead or leave people behind. We are out to enjoy nature together\, get to know each other better\, and keep each other safe. If you run ahead of the group\, we will feed you to the bears. \nThat being said\, this hike is for experienced hikers who want to hike at a relaxed pace. To be accepted on this hike\, YOU MUST HAVE HIKED WITH ME BEFORE. No beginners\, no guests\, no children. I may bring my friendly\, experienced hiking dog\, on a leash\, if there\nis room in my Jeep. Her name is Jasmine. \nYou choose to make your own carpooling plans once you are accepted on the hike. Recommended $25 gas fee. I recommend meeting at Shouldice Park and Ride at 7:45am or Petro Canada at hwy 22 and 1 at 8:00am. I can take 3 (max 4) passengers from Petro\, on the north end of the gravel road\, on the hwy 22 side. \nBear spray and cameras recommended. Lunch\, snacks\, 2-3 litres of water plus electrolytes\, poles\, changes of clothes\, medications\, waterproof hiking boots\, gaiters\, required. Water purification tablets\, a headlamp with new batteries\, first aid kit\, tensor bandage\, and emergency silver blanket are recommended in case things don’t go to plan. Extra socks and plastic bags for your boots are also useful. A water bladder you can drink while you hike\, plus a backup water bottle is ideal. \nPlease read the slow and steady waiver and code of conduct in advance. You will sign in agreeing to the conditions of the waiver at the trailhead and leave an emergency contact name and number. You agree to follow slow and steady policies\, listen to the organizer\, treat everyone with respect\, do your own research on the hikes\, come prepared\, and recognize that your organizers are volunteers who put in a lot of their own time to plan and lead these hikes for you.

My next hike is Arnica Lake on Saturday\, 18th\, for experienced hikers only. \nThis is a nice gradual hike uphill\, through the trees to a beautiful waterfall. We can also check out the backcountry campground and if there is time and interest\, we can hike over to see the bottom on the chain section to hike up to Ribbon Lake. We WILL NOT do the chain section on this hike. \nThis is a long hike\, we will take our time and hike at a relaxed/slow pace to enjoy being out in the mountains and to build up our endurance for the rest of our summer adventures. No beginners. You must have hiked with me before to attend. No running ahead\, lagging behind\, or rushing the group. \nDistance: 18.7 km (longer if we go to the base of the chain section) \nElevation: 683m \nGroup size: 4-12 hikers (you must have hiked with me before). \nI will be bringing my well trained 8 year old German Shepherd on leash. No other dogs\, guests\, or children. \nPlease dress for the elements. Bring 2L water\, a packed lunch and snacks\, medications\, and first aid kit\, good waterproof hiking boots\, hiking poles\, gaiters\, extra socks\, and microspikes. Bear spray is mandatory and must be accessible. No bear bells\, air horns\, or music playing. Bug spray and sun screen recommended. There are bears in the area\, but not causing problems. Please don’t bring fish (tuna) in your lunch. \nYou need a Kananaskis Pass. I can take three people from Petro at Hwy 1 and 22. Once accepted\, you can arrange your own carpooling from Calgary. Recommended gas fee $20. As hike starts at 9am\, and you should be in the Ribbon Creek Day Use Area parking lot to sign in at 8:45am\, I recommend leaving Petro at 8am and Shouldice Park and Ride by 7:45am (arrive a few minutes early to leave at those times). \nThis hike is good for intermediate hikers. We will not go fast\, or slow\, just out to enjoy nature and each other’s company. \nThere is a waitlist. Please answer the questions to be considered for the event. \nRegular S&S waiver and code of conduct apply and will be signed at the trailhead. \nWAIVER:\nAs per the new policy for waivers\, I will bring the group waiver form with me to the Meet-up location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this event. You will also be asked for the name and phone number of an emergency contact. Please come prepared with this information.\nYou are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you’re physically fit to do this event with the group\nYour participation in this event means you have read the waiver and by signing up for this have accepted the waiver.
