SUMMARY:Healy Pass T3 - Relaxed pace
DESCRIPTION:Slow and Steady Hikers\n**Healy Pass T3 – Relaxed pace**\nHealy Pass is a classic\, 19.5 km out-and-back hike. The first 6 to 7.5 km are a steady\, somewhat uneventful walk through dense pine forest alongside Healy Creek\, passing the Healy Creek Campground. The trail then breaks free into vibrant\, sprawling alpine meadows. The final stretch to the pass opens up completely\,. The elevation rise is gradual\, it climbs 700 m past dense forest to expansive alpine meadows\, culminating in stunning and dramatic views of Monarch Ramparts\, Mount Assiniboine\, and Egypt Lake\nPace: Moderate/Relaxed\, Distance: ~19km; Elevation Gain: ~800m Time: This is all day event\nDifficulty: T3 strenuous\nMandatory Gear:\nHiking boots\, Wind/water resistant jacket\, Hiking poles \, Gaiters\, Water/lunch/snacks\, BEAR spray (Mandatory) and Smiles!!!!!\n**Geology:** The mountains flanking Healy Pass are primarily composed of limestone and dolomite which were deposited in shallow ancient seas roughly 500 million to 250 million years ago.\nThe landscape was created roughly 80 to 55 million years ago during the Laramide Orogeny\, when massive tectonic plates shoved these ancient sedimentary rock layers eastward and upward over younger rock\nThe abrupt\, steep-walled valleys and sharp peaks are the result of intense Pleistocene glaciation. Glaciers carved wide U-shaped valleys out of the older bedrock\nThe lush\, wildflower-filled meadows of Healy Meadows are perched in a “hanging valley” formed by retreating glaciers. The exposed rock bands\, such as hard dolomite ledges along the Healy Creek\, form small\, picturesque waterfalls and river drops.\nA waiting list has automatically been created to determine this trip’s suitability for you as a potential participant. **Waiting list is not first come\, first serve\, but it’s based on the ability to fit into group dynamics and organizer’s discretion and also on past participation in SnS Hikers group events. I**f the organizer requires additional information from you\, please provide it\, otherwise\, you will remain on the waiting list. As a potential participant\, you must check this trip posting for additional directions from the organizer\, including up to trip cancellation. I am not a licensed guide\, hence completely dependent on group members for safety support.\nCODE OF CONDUCT: By signing up for this hike\, you agree to abide by the rules and regulations outlined in the Code of Conduct. You will need to provide an emergency name and phone number to be recorded on the waiver. The organizer will have a group waiver for you to sign at the meetup location and/or the trailhead.
