Wilderness Area Backpack Overnight T4

Jul-18 @ 08:00 - Jul-19 @ 20:00

Slow and Steady Hikers
Pinto Lake. No facilities. Sign up only if you are firm. Limited spots. Not for slowpokes. Thee will be one wide wet feet creek crossing and maybe a few others. Note, event is going to be through hike style. I’m known not to stop much. I have a uber light pack. Training trip. Be prepared to snack & drink on the move. You’ll need a bear canister, ursack or do a hang. Bring a backpacking saw to process firewood. Preferably you should have experience random camping in Canadian Rockies. Campsite has limited spots.

Your backpack should not weigh more than 25 lbs/11.5kg all in, including food and water. The lighter the better. My pack is probably going to be *well* under 20lbs. Gone are the days when I used to be a pack mule.

You’ll need a National park pass if you are driving. Trailhead is 3 hours north. I’m definitely driving. We’ll be de-camping just after a light breakfast and heading to to a nearby village for snacks after. If you can’t do all activities please don’t sign up. No cell reception where we are going.

Expect possible cold conditions as we will be camping at elevation. *There will be no shared equipment. You’re expected to be self sufficient.*

Distance: Approx 14 K one way
Elevation Gain: 820 meters round trip.
Event Pace: 4-5 hr hike in approx

Meal planning: Inbound lunch on trail, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast. *We’ll be stopping over at a nearby town on the way back for lunch.*

Note withdrawal cut off time. Will need a minimum of three persons for this to be a go else I might as well solo it. *RSVP only if you are firm*.

The event host reserves the right to not allow participants on the event if they are not fit enough or are not a fit for the group.

Any questions let me know.

Required equipment:
– Bear Spray
– Water crossing shoes if needed.

– a lightweight backpack and gear with total weight not more than 25lbs. Less is more.
– Individual [Backpacking Equipment](https://www.mec.ca/en/explore/backpacking-checklist) Not going to need everything on this list but its a good place to start. The lighter the better. With my ultralight pack setup, I’ll be having a day hike compared to traditional backpack setups.
