Chester Lake, Elephant Rocks, and two lakes RELAXED PACE – OPEN!
Slow and Steady Hikers
I love this spring hike right after it opens. We will do a relaxed pace hike to Chester Lake along the wide trail, then the Elephant Rocks, and two of the three lakes beyond. Hopefully, there will still be water in the second and third lakes this time of year. We will walk as far as we feel comfortable, possibly all the way to the last lake. It may be a long day. Bring lots of water and bear spray. We’ll eat lunch at one of the lakes. It is very beautiful and we are likely to see Marmots.
We will meet at the Chester Lake parking lot at 10am, ready to hike. I have had a lot of people arriving late over the past few events, so we will not be able to wait if you are late. Hike starts by 10:05am. Please plan ahead. This will be a long relaxed day, please don’t make evening plans.
If you choose to make your own carpooling plans once you are accepted on the hike. Recommended $25 gas fee. Drivers need a valid Kananaskis Park Pass and a vehicle that can drive on the Smith Dorrien gravel road. I can take 3 people from the Petro Canada at hwy 22 and 1.
There is a wait list for this event. I will take a maximum of 12 people on this hike.
Distance: Up to 13.7km (if we go to 3rd lake)
Elevation: Up to 649m (if we go to 3rd lake)
Will likely only go to first one or two lakes past Chester, but prepared for a long day.
All participants must sign at the trailhead agreeing to the Slow and Steady waiver and code of conduct. Please read them in advance.
We hike as a group to enjoy the scenery amd get away from Stampede! We hike together, no one left behind. Bear spray and cameras recommended. Lunch, water, poles, clothes, medications, waterproof boots, gaiters, etc. No brand new hikers.
