Ribbon Falls – CANCELLED
Slow and Steady Hikers
This hike is still closed, so I’m moving this to July 22nd. Arethusa is still closed, so we won’t do a midweek hike this week. My next hike is Arnica Lake on Saturday, 18th, for experienced hikers only.
This is a nice gradual hike uphill, through the trees to a beautiful waterfall. We can also check out the backcountry campground and if there is time and interest, we can hike over to see the bottom on the chain section to hike up to Ribbon Lake. We WILL NOT do the chain section on this hike.
This is a long hike, we will take our time and hike at a relaxed/slow pace to enjoy being out in the mountains and to build up our endurance for the rest of our summer adventures. No beginners. You must have hiked with me before to attend. No running ahead, lagging behind, or rushing the group.
Distance: 18.7 km (longer if we go to the base of the chain section)
Elevation: 683m
Group size: 4-12 hikers (you must have hiked with me before).
I will be bringing my well trained 8 year old German Shepherd on leash. No other dogs, guests, or children.
Please dress for the elements. Bring 2L water, a packed lunch and snacks, medications, and first aid kit, good waterproof hiking boots, hiking poles, gaiters, extra socks, and microspikes. Bear spray is mandatory and must be accessible. No bear bells, air horns, or music playing. Bug spray and sun screen recommended. There are bears in the area, but not causing problems. Please don’t bring fish (tuna) in your lunch.
You need a Kananaskis Pass. I can take three people from Petro at Hwy 1 and 22. Once accepted, you can arrange your own carpooling from Calgary. Recommended gas fee $20. As hike starts at 9am, and you should be in the Ribbon Creek Day Use Area parking lot to sign in at 8:45am, I recommend leaving Petro at 8am and Shouldice Park and Ride by 7:45am (arrive a few minutes early to leave at those times).
This hike is good for intermediate hikers. We will not go fast, or slow, just out to enjoy nature and each other’s company.
There is a waitlist. Please answer the questions to be considered for the event.
Regular S&S waiver and code of conduct apply and will be signed at the trailhead.
